Instructor Biography
Kevin Christenson Jr.
Trumpet / Jazz Educator / Performer
Kevin Christenson Jr. is a proud graduate of Homestead High School, where he studied under the leadership of Steve Barber and first developed his lifelong passion for music and jazz performance. He went on to study at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he was a member of the Edmund Cord Trumpet Studio from 1995 to 1997 and participated in Dominic Spera’s jazz techniques class in 1996. Kevin later completed his degree at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), continuing to refine his musicianship and dedication to music education.
As a performer, Kevin played with several university ensembles, including the IPFW Jazz Band, performing both as a high school senior and again as a college senior in 1999–2000. These experiences deepened his appreciation for jazz improvisation, ensemble performance, and mentorship.
Kevin began his teaching career on the Homestead High School music staff, serving from 1992 to 2001, and returned in 2017 to the present to continue contributing to the school’s acclaimed band and jazz programs. Between those years, he served as Head Band Director at Heritage Jr/Sr High School for a decade, where his ensembles achieved five Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Marching Band State Finalists appearances in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.
A former member of the Indiana Bandmasters Association, Kevin remains active as a performer and clinician in the Fort Wayne area, sharing his passion for jazz and brass performance with students and audiences alike.
In addition to his work in music education, Kevin is deeply involved in the local arts community. He is an active volunteer for Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, a former board member of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir (FWCC), and currently serves on both the FWCC Events Committee and the Arts United Taste of the Arts Entertainment Committee.
Kevin is honored to continue giving back to the Homestead and Fort Wayne arts communities — the very places where his musical journey began — inspiring the next generation of musicians to perform, create, and lead with passion and purpose.
